Sedation Dentist In Cary, NC

At Cary Dental Arts our patients comfort is our priority. For this reason, we offer several different sedation options from local anaesthetic to IV sedation. Both oral and IV sedation require consultations prior to treatment, as they involve some preparation. However local anaesthetic and inhalation sedation can be administered on the day without notice.

Local Anesthetic

Local anesthetic is regularly used during dental procedures. It is the most reliable form of pain management, and can be used in conjunction with more mild forms of sedation (such as inhalation sedation) for nervous patients. A numbing gel is applied to the injection site, before the local anaesthetic is administered to reduce discomfort.

Inhalation Sedation

Inhalation sedation involves the administration nitrous oxide or laughing gas through a nasal mask. It is a noninvasive method of relaxation for nervous patients, which can also reduce pain and gag reflex sensitivity.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedatives are administered orally or intravenously, and allow patients to remain conscious but relaxed during their dental procedure. Patients are able to talk and breathe however may not have clear memory of the procedure.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is administered by a trained individual separate from the dental team. Patients are able enter a sleep like state, and have no memory of the procedure, however it is not as involved as a general anaesthetic. This option is great for extremely nervous patients, and children, especially when multiple treatments are required.
