Dental Implants

Are you fed up with your uncomfortable and unpleasant removable dentures? Are you looking for a reliable, aesthetically pleasing, and durable option for your missing teeth? Then dental implants at Cary Dental Arts are the right choice for you.

What are Dental Implants?

An implant is a screw-shaped fixture made of titanium that is inserted into the jaw bone to serve as a replacement root for an artificial tooth. Since the implant is placed into the bone just like the natural teeth, it becomes gradually fused with the surrounding jaw bone and provides excellent support and stability to any prosthesis (a crown, bridge, or an overdenture) that is attached over it for replacing missing teeth.

Who Can Benefit from Dental Implants?

Any individual who is healthy and has good oral health is a candidate for getting dental implants. At Cary Dental Arts, we recommend dental implants for replacing missing teeth in the following clinical situations:

  • Single Missing Tooth – conventionally, dentists used bridges for replacing individual missing teeth. However, this involved the sacrifice of a significant amount of the healthy tooth structure of the supporting teeth. This problem has been eliminated with dental implants. You need an implant and a crown! No need to damage the adjacent natural teeth.
  • Multiple Missing Teeth – if you have multiple teeth missing, you do not necessarily need to have an implant for each lost tooth. A single implant can support up to three or four missing teeth. So, when it comes to replacing multiple teeth, there is no option better than the implants.
  • Replacing of All Missing Teeth – previously, the only option available for replacing all missing teeth in a jaw were removable dentures, that not only frequently required repairs or replacement, but also did not restore eating and speaking capability. Those days are gone now. Now, Dr. Tony will replace all missing teeth in a jaw by using a fixed bridge that is supported by only 4, 6, or 8 implants in each jaw. This prosthesis, known as the all-on-four implant-supported fixed bridge, or the full-arch prosthesis, not only gives you an attractive smile but will also restore your ability to eat all your foods without any difficulty.

How Are Dental Implants Placed?

Getting dental implants at Cary Dental Arts is an uncomplicated and straightforward process.

  • Clinical Examination – during your first appointment, Dr. Tony will perform a detailed clinical examination and evaluate the x-ray images and study models of your teeth. At this stage, we encourage you to discuss any concerns or queries that you may have regarding the treatment.
  • Treatment Planning – at Cary Dental Arts, we believe that the success of dental implant treatment is dependent on careful diagnosis and treatment planning. Therefore, Dr. Tony uses state of the art diagnostic technology, including digital x-rays and CT scan system, including your study models to prepare a treatment plan that is fully customized according to your dental needs and aesthetic aspirations.
  • Surgical Procedure – since the placement of dental implants is a surgical procedure; therefore, Dr. Horalek performs this procedure under local anesthesia to make sure that you remain pain-free, comfortable, and relaxed during your treatment. First, Dr. Tony will make an incision over the soft tissues where the implant needs to be inserted, to expose the underlying bone. Then, Dr. Tony will drill a hole in the bone, followed by carefully inserting the implant into position while applying gentle and controlled forces. At Cary Dental Arts, we prepare a surgical guide for each patient before implant placement, which guides the dentist to insert the implant precisely at the pre-determined position angulation, thereby enhancing the success of the treatment.
  • Healing Phase – after the insertion of the implant, Dr. Tony will insert a healing cap over the implant. This is done to ensure that there is uninterrupted and optimal healing of the surgical site. This healing cap is removed after 4-6 months, once the implant has become fused with the jaw bone, and complete healing has taken place. While the surgical implant site is healing, Dr. Tony will give place a temporary restoration over the implant, so that the aesthetics are restored.
  • Placement of Permanent Restoration – Once complete healing of the implant insertion site has taken place, we will place the definitive prosthesis on the implant, depending on the number of teeth to be replaced.

That’s it! Enjoy your brand-new, attractive, and healthy smile!

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer several advantages over the traditional tooth replacement options. The most significant benefit of dental implants are their excellent success and durability. With proper care, you can expect your implants to last for a lifetime. Also, unlike the dentures that cause bone resorption with use, dental implants preserve the quality and quantity of the jawbones, thereby minimizing the chances of fracture.

Dental implants remain anchored in the jaw bone, just like the natural teeth. Therefore, they look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. They also allow you to eat all your favorite foods; you can even eat nuts and raisins without having to worry about slipping or dislodgement. What more can you ask for?

Caring for Your Implants!

Looking after your dental implant-supported teeth is easy; make sure that you brush and floss regularly, just like you do for your natural teeth. Also, you must visit us regularly for checkups, so that we can make sure that you retain your natural and implant-supported teeth throughout life.
