What are dentures?
Full dentures and dental partials are removable acrylic devices which replace missing teeth. A full denture replaces a complete upper or lower arch for an individual who has lost all of their teeth. Dental partials are designed for those with only a few missing teeth and are made to fit around remaining natural dentition.
How are dentures made?
Following a consultation, your dentist will take moulds of all your teeth so your custom denture is tight fitting.
Generally dentures take 3-4 weeks to be made. In some cases with prior planning, measures can be taken to ensure that your denture is ready for you immediately following an extraction. This is especially useful following the removal of a visible tooth.
Why should I get a denture?
Dentures are an affordable method of replacing multiple teeth. Difficulty chewing or talking can be particularly uncomfortable and anxiety provoking in social settings. Dentures can restore structure and function to patients teeth boosting their confidence and quality of life.
Do I need to get a new denture if my teeth change?
Ill fitting dentures can be frustrating. However dentures are very adaptable. If additional teeth are lost they can be easily added to existing partial dentures, and relining of the denture improves it’s fit against the gums and reduces unwanted movement.
How long will my denture last?
Generally with proper care and cleaning, your denture should last you between five to eight years.
